CSA Reading Time in Year 1

Reading Time in Year 1 takes place twice a week. The class is divided into reading groups according the reading strategies the children need to develop and practice. This is our "Guided reading" where the teacher reads with one group for 15 minutes while the rest do some "reading cards". These reading cards aim at each group´s needs so they practice while they are waiting for their turn to read.

Year 4 and 5 working with Phonics International

This is Year5 working with Phonics.
And here goes Year 4. They have a phonics session per week and learn new alternative spelling. They all read texts and spot the new spelling.

They love learning alternative spelling and doing the activities.

This year we have implemented in school the Phonics International phonics and spelling programme of Debbie Hepplewhite for years 4, 5 and 6. This programme is an excellent one to follow the Jolly Phonics. It has all the necessary material: sound activity worksheets, flashcards, alphabetic posters, games, I can read texts, and...it is all online!
Have a look at it: www.phonicsinternational.com

Year 1 and the magnetic letters

Year 1 loves working with their magnetic letters and whiteboards! It is a wonderful activity as children apply their phonics knowledge, they hear sounds in words and then write on their boards. We decided to put all the letters in one big rectangular plastic box which they share in groups of 4.
